Split/Second is one of those games I have been itching to play since the first gameplay shots were revealed back in March last year. Explosive Burnout-esque gameplay with boobytraps! To be honest, I’m surprised it’s a game from Disney Interactive Studios.

It kinda feels like a gritty Wacky Races, with an aim to send your enemies barrelling towards oil tankards, collapsing buildings and burning cars to knock them back in their race times. You destroy not only the other cars, but the world around you. Video after the jump.

Steam is offering over-specced dictatorship simulator Tropico 3 at 75% off this week complete with two additional maps and avatar costumes exclusive to the download service.

The game received praise from the likes of Kotaku for its great simulation of cold war politics and strategy in a tinpot Caribbean island. Damn, it actually makes history fun (apparently).

Now the expansive Absolute Power expansion has been released, it might be worth splashing out the £5 for a flavour of Cuban-style politics.

Details on the expansion are listed after the jump (credit to Kotaku).

Star Wars: The Old Republic‘s developer Bioware doesn’t believe sticking to one class is enough for an MMORPG, oh no! So it’s decided to treat us, the gamer public to not one but two classes per character.

Despite being named the Advanced Class system, the premise is actually quite simple – start out with a primary class then once players reach a certain level, they will be able to choose between a further two advanced classes to specialise their character further.

Civilization 2 was probably one of my favourite games of all time, I spent a good few years of my life taking over the world via various means and the experience keep my megalomania at bay. I’ve since lost interest in the franchise, I found 3 a bit blah and 4 a highly specced yet poor man’s cop-out of Total War. After all, grid based warfare is so 1990′s, isn’t it?

Log onto Games for Windows Live and you’re sure to be disappointed by its lack of…er…games.

Microsoft’s answer to Steam is certainly the poorer party in the game download neighbourhood, however Rockstar have decided to add GTA IV to the service’s offering, which currently hosts the grand total of Bethesda’s Fallout 3 and 2K’s Bioshock 2 as AAA games. It’s a shame really, especially seeing as though players are able to earn XBL gamer points.

On the European launch day of sci-fi epic Mass Effect 2, EA has announced that the title has sold two million copies within five days on US shelves.

This isn’t particularly surprising, seeing as though the game became a global trending topic on Twitter on US launch day, but it sure makes you wonder how much this golden figure will increase now the game is globally available.

Rockstar Games hasn’t shown a whole lotta love to the PS3 since the launch of GTA IV, depriving the platform of two very worthy DLC packs; The Lost And The Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony.

But Rockstar has decided to treat loyal PS3 and PC gamers with both expansions this March. The two episodes will be rolling out on PSN and Games for Windows LIVE on 30 March and should be hitting store shelves around the same time – no info on price yet though, though if the Xbox 360 version is anything to go by, it will be the £19.99/$30 mark for both combined.

Capcom has just launched the official website for upcoming third-person shooter title Lost Planet 2.

The website is pretty bare at the moment, simply reeling off trailers for the game and offers little information about the game.

The game is being developed for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC and is set to appear in stores on 18 May, 2010 in North America and Europe and 20 May, 2010 for Japan.

MMO city builder game Cities XL attracted much fanfare prior to launch, but a raft of technical issues encountered with online play caused many to abandon the game and not wanting to pay the steep monthly fee.

This has clearly become a major problem for developer Monte Cristo’s bottom line, as the “Planet Offer” – the core MMO functionality of the game – is due to be completely stripped out by 8 March 2010.

With all the talk going on around Bioware’s upcoming MMO epic Star Wars The Old Republic, no-one can be blamed for forgetting about its older sibling, Star Wars Galaxies.

Sony Online Entertainment have decided to up the ante and release new gameplay features and offer free activation to estranged players.
